The Dartmouth College Environmental Health and Safety department provides education, training, and support to the entire Dartmouth community to promote health, safety, and environmental protection. Staffed by professionals in biological safety, environmental management, hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, research safety, and radiation safety, EHS assists the campus with evaluating, managing, and minimizing risks.
Dartmouth’s EHS Strategic Plan employs the EHS Management System, based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act approach, consistent with quality management principles.
The purpose of Dartmouth College’s environmental health and safety program is to:
- Provide faculty, staff, and students with a safe and healthy working environment, learning environment, and living environment.
- Develop a safety awareness and promote a culture of safety among employees and others engaged in work for Dartmouth College so accidents and occupational illnesses will be reduced to a minimum.
- Identify and manage hazards associated with occupational safety, research, and environmental protection.
- Work with regulatory agencies and others to develop and implement laws, regulations, and standards to protect workers safety, and the environment.
