The Dartmouth College Hot Work Program establishes requirements for safely conducting operations that produce open flames, heat, or sparks, including welding, cutting, brazing, grinding, torch soldering, thawing pipes, and torch-applied roofing and Firewatch requirements for hot work operations. Overseen by Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), the program applies to Dartmouth employees, student employees, property managers, and contractors and is designed to prevent fires, unwanted fire alarm activations, and the migration of smoke and odors resulting from hot work activities. The program is based on OSHA requirements, NFPA 51B, and FM hot work guidance. EHS provides program oversight, employee training, audits, and annual inspections of Dartmouth's designated fire-safe hot work areas.
