Personal Protective Equipment Program
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that personal protective equipment (PPE) be selected, provided, and worn by employees in situations where PPE could help reduce the potential for harm and injury (29 CFR 1910.132). PPE represents a last line of defense in many situations and supplements engineering controls when they are inadequate or during their implementation.
Special considerations apply for certain tasks (such as welding) done by qualified individuals. PPE is readily available to Dartmouth College employees through their supervisors and EHS. Because PPE standards change, please contact EHS for help in application and selection.
About the Program
This Program applies to all Dartmouth College employees, including students who are employed by the College. This Program meets the intent of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards on Personal Protective Equipment, 29 CFR §1910.132 through §1910.140, and §1926.28. This Program applies to employees performing general industry and construction work, as defined by OSHA.
